Making Fun of Toyota’s Tundra TV Ads

Truckers know that….blah blah blah.” I’m a HUGE fan of the Tundra, but the voice-over guy in those Tundra commercials is really starting to wear on me. To be honest, I never really liked that part of the Tundra TV ads in the first place…but since the stunts were so cool, it was easy to ignore him. Now, a few years later, the stunts are no longer fresh and I’m starting to focus on the guy who sounds like a cross between Wilford Brimley and the Cowboy from The Big Lebowski (whose name in real life is Sam Elliot).

The Tundra commercial voice-over guy sounds like a cross between these two...

So, in honor of the somewhat annoying voice in the Tundra commercials, here are a couple of gag videos found on Funny or Die.

Toyota Tundra vs F150 Video Comparison Kinda Weak

Toyota has published some comparison videos on their ToyotaUSA YouTube channel. While it’s great to see Toyota embracing YouTube, this effort (this F150 vs Tundra video) leaves a lot to be desired.

Toyota Tundra Killer Heat Proves Transmission Is Tough

We’ve all seen those spectacular car and truck ads where someone is either racing a jet, leaping through the desert dunes or avoiding video game-style obstacles in order to demonstrate just how agile and capable a certain vehicle really is. These ads are cool, but are they real?

The amazing advances that have been made in terms of computer graphics and special effects have led to the creation of a lot of “faked” commercials shot in front of a greenscreen in order to add in all of the perceived dangers once everyone is safely back in the studio. While this might be true of a large portion of television trickery, Toyota has remained committed to investing serious sums in producing some of the most incredible, and realistic, advertisements ever filmed.

The Toyota Tundra “Killer Heat” ad is a perfect example. In the TV spot (see below), a Tundra pickup is seen towing 10,000 lbs of cargo up a twisting road that spirals around an 80 foot tower. Here’s some information about the making of the Killer Heat commercial:

Toyota Tundra Does A Double Front Flip

This is something you’re just going to have to see to believe:

This Tundra does a double-front-flip and lands on all 4 wheels. Just like in the movies. Crazy.

The good news is that the driver is A-OK, so we can have a little fun with this one.

Here’s a list of funny things that could have been said by the driver and/or the crowd afterwords:

  • Did you see what *God* just did man?” (shout out to Fear & Loathing)
  • “OOWWWWWWWWW.”
  • “Didn’t spill a drop!” (while holding up a cup of coffee).
  • “The scores are coming in now – the British and the French gave him a perfect 10, but the East German judge gave him a 6?”

Toyota Tundra Super Bowl Commercial – Killer Heat

During the Super Bowl halftime show, Toyota debuted a new TV commercial for the Toyota Tundra.

Here’s what we like about it:

  • The demonstration is completely ridiculous – the situation shown could never happen – but it still made us say “Whoa – cool” when we saw it. The immediate impact is excellent.
  • It’s true that truckers know about heat killing transmissions
