2016 Toyota Tundra TRD PRO Arrives

True story: when Toyota first unveiled the Quicksand color on the Tacoma I was less than impressed. Now that I get to see it outside, against a natural back drop, well. I’ve changed my opinion.
The great part of being where I am at is this is the 3rd time I’ve reviewed this generation of the Tundra. This means, I get to go in more in-depth than just the generic reviews. It is pretty snowy here, but should warm up by the weekend which means plenty of mud. Rest assured I’ll get it dirty.
Besides seeing it muddy, what else interests you on this truck?
For reference, the 2016 model comes with the larger 38 gallon gas tank (26.4 before), a standard integrated Trailer Brake Control (near the steering wheel, below the ignition key) and an upgraded Entune Multimedia units with the premium audio system. “The premium multimedia units offer 85 percent faster functionality thanks to new dual core processors, and iPhone® users can now charge their phone using the USB port while using the Entune App Suite at the same time. The App Suite adds Slacker Radio and replaces Bing with Destination Search,” according to Toyota. I’ll be playing around with that.
Here is the Monroney.

The stereo on my 2014 SR5 SUCKED! Hopefully by “upgraded” they mean better sound, more power and better speakers. It was one of the factors in my decision to sell it. (flame suit on).
Chris,
I’m no audio file. But, I’ll be sure to CRANK IT UP!

Tim,
When you rolling into chi-town here?
I land at like 2 or 3 and then get picked up to go to the hotel. These events are so jam packed it is kind of ridiculous.
My schedule:
– Land Wednesday afternoon
– Quick stop at Nissan party
– Dinner with Toyota
– Breakfast with local press association
– Press Conference, Press Conference, Press Conference, Press Conference, Press Conference, Press Conference
– Lunch with contacts
– Press Conference, Press Conference, Press Conference, Press Conference, Press Conference, Press Conference
– Dinner with Toyota or another OEM
– Sweet Home Chicago party until 10-11
– Breakfast at hotel
– Cram in work for a few hours
– Get picked up to fly home
– Land at 3, drive 4 hours home and hopefully make it for a late dinner
Sleep is overrated I guess. LOL.

The radios are fine I sought a radio is why someone would sell there Tundra
Huh? In English please? It wasn’t the sole reason I sold my Tundra but it was more of a consideration than a factor. I’ve had rental Malibus with better stereos.
Man that’s a good looking truck. I hope Toyota updates this truck mechanically. I think Toyota could do some damage to the market if they would invest in trucks.
I always wondered why there doesn’t appear to be a power heated seat in the Pro.
And, on another note, the Chicago Auto Show webpage doesn’t indicated anything new from Toyota. Is that to be trusted? Can Toyota still surprise people and unveil something new?
there is a scheduled news conference with Toyota on Feb. 11th 230pm eastern…….. theres something they are going to talk about but nobody knows what. If you follow Livestream you can get the updates as they come in.
Interesting! thanks!
(fingers crossed)
GoBig,
Like Hemi said, the webpage will only show press conference times. There is a Livestream if you want to watch the press conference. Look for the short brown haired guy. That would be me. 🙂
-Tim
Thanks Tim and Hemi. I will check that out.
Hey fellas,
Looks like we will be disappointed again, according to this the reveal will be a Tacoma special addition, nothing with the tundra once again.
enjoy your sliding sales Toyota

Tim,
you hearing anything else or just a BS tacoma trim like above. Looks like the GMC SLT 6.2 8 speed may be in my future, bummer..
BB,
Yes, I am aware of what it is. And no, I’m not saying. LOL.
-Tim
BB, I couldn’t read the linked article, because it was for subscribers only. I guess I will have to wait a few days. The teaser pic that Toyota released looks like it could be a Tacoma Pro to me. I guess I will find out on Thursday.
Go Big,
Here is what is said
“Toyota
Toyota will show a new model or trim package of the Tacoma midsize pickup”
so all of us that were thinking the tundra would finally get some updates get the shaft.
Couldn’t agree more, soooooo disappointing!
Never thought I would do it but I may not own a Toyota 4×4 for my next vehicle.
May have to test drive that 6.2L GMC as well…
Although there may not be a new tundra, Toyota may use that time to discuss a future model.
toyota never discusses future models, they do this, a tight lipped reveal.
that’s why you can bank on a new TRD Pro tacoma and 0 for the tundra
