In a Wall Street Journal article, the head engineer for the next-gen Toyota Tundra program offered some comments about what Toyota has planned for the new Tundra in 2014. You can read the article here.

TXTee – LOL – I hear you. I can’t imagine why this is something Toyota is mentioning. Seems pretty obscure.
Brian J – I *knew* someone was going to say that about the crew cab bed. I don’t see it happening, but it’s definitely something that some consumers feel very strongly about.
I can’t believe GM posting a 23% increase in sales. It really amazes me that the people living in the U.S. so quickly forget the govt. bailed the company out of bankruptcy and certain disaster. Until GM builds a truck or small car better than the tundra or corolla, I’m sticking with the best out there in the toyota lineup as far as I am concerned. Chevy’s silverado with the wimpy engine/tranny and ho-hum seats and interior along with the chevy cobalt which although gets as good as mpg as the corolla, is not as reliable or well built overall in my opinion. I am though not a big fan of the overpriced camry seeing as how it is not much bigger than the corolla and not even close as big as the chevy impala achieving about the same mpg in the bigger, more powerfull impala.
I want a CrewMax Long Bed……is that reaching too high? I think I’ve seen other manufacturers with that option. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.
Well if it’s a wish list: Stronger frame, Bigger tank… Thicker body and door panels with “Tuff paint” wish they would just Rhino line the entire truck… Oh and a supercharger.. what more could I ask for? It’s been awesome watching this truck change the market on similar competitors since 07, Toyota puts a power plant under the hood and before ya know it… the next truck maker gives his 10 more hp and a 6 speed, can wait to see what happens when the New Tundra comes out. Maybe I can squeeze that bigger tank in my 2010 crew? LOVE MY Tundra (side note: I also have a 1996 F150 that I love 115k and still kicking, I have the best of both worlds :)
Pete – I want to see what happens too. I think that 2014 will be a big year for pickups…Ford, GM, Chrysler-Fiat, Toyota, and Nissan are all going to bring out new trucks right about the same time.

Thanks Jason, I really hate to wait, I put only about 7000 miles a year on my vehicle so maybe I should just lease for three, then buy! That will give them a year to fix any problems they have in the new gen tundra!
Deric – Now is a great time to lease. Residual values are sky-high, and leasing is a great hedge against a sudden increase in gas prices. I like it!
Try Transfer Flow for a larger fuel tank. I have a 47 gallon on my 2007 Tundra Crew Max.

Tundra! The stronger paint is a good one. They already have a spurt charger it costs a lot. They need to built a true sports truck. Like with the charger a.d airflow system put a larger tank, larger Rims 22, stronger tow load a goose kneck hitch hide away for us country boys, air suspension for work and high speeds like lower at higher speeds and give you ability to raise it when off roading or when needed, stronger leaf springs for the crew max, I have a lot more but hit me up if you want them.
Yeah three things to say the 2005 tacoma I bought sucked four banger no power. The 2008 toyota tundra rocked and kicked and stomped some (.+@@,) but had accident and it went to the grave but that was a working mans truck 50 loads of rock 60 loads of dirt tons of brush,lumber you name it in was in it. So to the final stage the new 2012 tundra what happened who changed it this is no work truck this is pretty boy truck or daddys boy truck come on. The back up camra has to be disconnected to remove tallgate which idiot thought that ideal up in there sleep. No it should go in the bumper or taillight. Also wiper blades don’t touch at top of window cause glass is bowed why crazy. If it an’t broke don’t fix it. Lol. Also everyone of these trucks should come standard with step sides stop being cheap for 38,000 on a truck give me a break. I am like the bulls in the 90’s three peat buyer. I would trade this 2012 for my 2008 in a second. So to you out there waiting for the 2014 don’t hold you breath probley should wait and see what they change or resourse out to get cheaper less reliable parts first. Rock worrior lol were you driving it there are no off roads here. Just build a good soild work truck 2008 was you best one and don’t think they will be able to match it. No matter how many new accessorries they glue on the new trucks thanks rick
Converted my family and friends to toyota 10 years ago and haven’t looked back, have an 07 and 08 tundra (one for MI and one for FL). I for one am looking forward to the new tundra but have to admit that I am a bit afraid. Will the forward thinkers of toyota do something revolutionary or take the low road as in the recent 4runners and fj cruisers. My gut feeling is the low road, as in them giving us a warmed over T100 and calling it a tacoma (owned an 05 what a piece)
