2014 “Truck of the Year” on FIRE – Apparently Literally

Have you heard about the 2015 GMC Yukon that caught fire? Apparently, it is being recalled due to a possible fire risk. So is the North American “Truck of the Year” – GM Twins. With already millions of cars being recalled over ignition switch failures, GM is on FIRE lately. Really, fire.
GM says the latest recall will apply to every single 2014 Chevy Silverado and 2014 GMC Sierra pickup they have built as well as 2015 Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe and 2015 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL.
Here is the video of the 2015 GMC Yukon that caught fire.

According to their recall notice:
The Problem: A hose clamp connecting the line from the oil cooler to the transmission, if not securely seated and attached, can leak or oil or come loose. If the oil makes contact with a hot surface it can ignite and result in a vehicle fire. To date, GM is aware of three incidents and no injuries.
The Fix: GM dealers will inspect the fitting and make the proper adjustments as needed. The first contact letters should be going out to truck owners by the week of April 28, 2014.
What Owners Should Do: Chevrolet and GMC owners can call 866-694-6546 or 866-790-5700 for more information.
The reality is that all manufactures have recalls and it is great to see GM be proactive with this very serious issue. We hope no one gets injured.
This is just more tough news for new GM CEO Mary Barra who pledged to stop building poor quality cars. For her sake, hopefully this is the worst of it.

Well you got to love those union workers. Our tax dollar at work, or destroying itself.
Union workers, really? most of the issues as far as recalls go are not union worker created, it’s the salaried enginers and upper management.
[…] 2014 Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra Fire Recall | Tundra Headquarters Blog Well the tundra doesn't spontaneously combust , thats a pretty good reason […]
yet another reason why I went with the new 2014 tundra DC over the 2014 chevy silverado I was about to buy a few weeks ago.
I feared the unknown with GM trucks new in 2014 but was really hoping resale and reliability was going to turn around GM in 2014 trucks, guess not?????????
I know what I am getting I believe with the 2014 tundra and resale and reliability will be higher than GM trucks. Plus, if the new 2014 GM trucks take a plop in sales and no one is buying due to either way higher pricing, less rebates, or fire/recall issues, 2-4 years down the road my GM truck will be worth even less than the comparable tundra even having to pay 3-4 grand more to get the GM truck.

I think this is not a big issue but this recall affects the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups. It also affects the new 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and suburban SUVs as well as the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL SUVs.
Agreed with you Mike T……
definitely if oil makes contact with a hot surface in the presence of air at that time we have a complete fire triangle resulting in fire….
