Our friends over at Pickuptrucks.com have awarded the 2015 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro as their 4×4 Challenge Winner besting the 2015 Ram 1500 Rebel.

Their final analysis of the truck matches what we have been saying all along. Both trucks are really capable, yet the Tundra is cheaper and matches the Rebel is nearly every other category. Maybe this award and recognition will finally force the rest of the automotive media to sit up and take notice.

The Tundra TRD Pro is a great truck, I especially like the fact that the core parts are backward compatible–is that every mentioned when the truck is reviewed? But I think it will take more than this truck for the automotive media to take notice. With the new Nissan Titan XD bursting on to the scene and GM putting a diesel in a mid-size truck, it will be harder for Toyota to be noticed in world of pickup trucks.
The as-tested payload number for the RAM is a bit troubling. 900 lbs and that doesn’t account for the driver’s weight.
I found that a bit concerning as well. Not sure what the deal is.

It just made me question that 10k lb tow rating when a recommended tongue weight of 10% would easily exceed that payload rating.
Plus, add five average American adult and there would be no capacity left for anything else.
I also find the payload rating odd. I have a 2013 Ram sport loaded crewcab 4×4 with 3.92 rear.
my payload is around 1300 lbs.
900lbs is a joke, Ram should be ashamed of themselves.

Next time you see the Ram guys, ask them how the tow rating can be that high since 10% tongue would exceed payload?
