White Most Popular Vehicle/Truck Color Again

In a world full of color, it seems consumers want a white/pearl truck. Is white/pearl really that awesome or a pain to keep clean?
White trucks are the most popular according to a paint survey. Sexy or a pain to clean?
An article on Aftermarketnews.com says that while white/pearl has held steady over the past decade and is popular among most car segment. Historically though, it has been most popular in the truck segment.
Apparently, what has finally pushed it over the top if the pearl color which is gaining popularity in luxury cars.
White reigns supreme again as the most popular vehicle color in the world.
“Today, white tri-coats are more readily applicable to the global manufacturing base and evoke quality and value among a variety of vehicle segments,” according to Nancy Lockhart, DuPont color marketing manager. “Solid whites have been seen in vanilla shades, stone shades and the current preference of bright whites.”
Black though is still a top choice and is widely popular in China. Silver wasn’t that far behind.
“Silver peaked during the start of the digital age between 2000 and 2006,” said Lockhart. “We’re seeing more luxury vehicle purchases now that the economy has started to stabilize, and vehicles painted black/black effect are seen as luxury status symbols in several key global markets.”
While this report is proof that white is a popular choice, we think Tundra pickups look great in all colors. How about you? What color is your truck?

White is the color of my Tundra. I picked white because it is the same color as snow, which is needed for alpine skiing 🙂

I think a LOT of it is fleet vehicles. Except, it is a world-wide study. So, while the numbers can be skewed in North America to fleet sales, I wonder if that is the same thing in other areas.

Most of the trucks I saw overseas were white.

All the videos that I’ve seen of Toyota pickup hauling some rebel group around the middle east seem to be white too. I wonder if that has an effect??

2010 Crewmax in black.
A coworker who sold cars in his early days told me red was the worst color to buy. Due to its location in the color spectrum it absorbs the most uv light and fades fastest. A little research confirmed it. Odd little fact.

White doesn’t show dirt like Black and dark blue does. I’m sure fleet sales do push the numbers up but I think that people in general are getting lazy and white doesn’t have to be cleaned as often.
Oh 07 CM Limited @ 150,448 miles. Nautical Blue, is their any other color? Okay maybe Black.
I’m actually rocking yellow right now and it seems to do fairly well at not showing dirt. I didn’t plan on getting a yellow truck, but the price was right. I’d probably go gray in the future though.
Really like my black DC but as has been pointed out, black shows dirt way too easy. Wanted a maroon one, like my last Tundra, but unfortunately Toyota limited the color choices on their RW package.
white, in my opinion, is the worst color to get along with ugly beige with beige interior and then yellow and then black. I prefer darker colors like reds and blues and greens and the now gone slate metallic (grays).
I wouldn’t buy any vehicle ever being white or yellow nor anything else. I have always owned dark blue, red, green, and even a silver mixed in the mix with grays as well, but never white, black, or yellow or beige ever. (yuck).
Isn’t Red the most popular color in China? 🙂
Chrome on white looks nice, but I’ve been put off by my Buddy’s wife getting t-boned in her white car in winter. The person who hit her (like she wasn’t there) said that she looked and saw no cars – I started watching and ya – white is near invisible on snowy roads and blowing snow.
Same may be said for other colours in other seasons and surroundings too I guess.

Light colors are much easier to keep clean (looking). I can’t figure out why anyone wants a black or dark blue truck? One trip near a dirt road, and it’s time for another wash. The dark colors also tend to show swirl marks in the clear coat from those aforementioned washings.
To each his own I suppose.
Car rental companies and other fleet buyers skew the stats on car sales.

I was of same opinion as you for years, though a shiny clean black paint always made me drool – coold not imagine how hard it was to keep it that way. Got a deal on our 4Runner and ended up finding that black is not that bad.
Your right on the swirls though – they are way easier to see on dark colours – all you can do is keep a good coat of carnuba on her.
Interior decorator told me to pick my tile and grout colour to match dirt colour in my yard – wow, it works – bet would apply to vehicles too…
Considering that white is every color mixed together, it’s actually very colorful.
I had 03 black tundra you can see dust even sitting in the garage. You have to wax it after every car wash just to get rid of water spot.
I sold it and got a 09 white tundra
