Journalist Crashes Chevy Camaro At Press Event

This story isn’t about trucks or the Tundra. It isn’t about towing, payload or fuel economy statistics. It is about a journalist who got a chance to drive a pre-production 6th generation Chevy Camaro at a controlled track event. It is also about said journalist crashing the car into a wall.

As an automotive journalist, we hear about accidents happening at track events from time to time. It is usually blown out of proportion by the time we hear about it. This time, though, we have the video to show you how it happened.

There are many things we can say about this video and our take on it (trust us, our personal Facebook wall has been blowing up). Yet, we thought you, the readers of Tundraheadquarters.com, would like to see it and weigh in for yourself.

Here is your opportunity. What do you think when you watch it?

Oh and BTW, the journalist, Patrick George, writes for Jalopnik. You may know George from another article he penned about being thrown in jail for speeding in Virginia. He was driving a Chevy Corvette ZL1.

Funny, Sad, and Hilarious are some of the words that come to mind. One thing I did notice is how much the sorry tires were sliding in every corner and he was not going that fast? I have driven my Tundra through corners faster than that, without all the screeching and sliding around. Sort of makes you think the track was covered in pea gravel or something?

I would like to be an auto journalist too; but I would purposely crash two to three cars a day just for the heck of it.

      Randy,

LOL at crashing cars. You don’t get very far doing that!

I feel bad for him! He was trying to give us a good presentation of the car and in the moments leading up to the fender bender, he mentioned the car is better in many ways over the outgoing Camaro. That combined with his enthusiasm, means something.

I also heard that car sliding all over the place. Perhaps the tires were cold or worn down a bit or maybe he just should have paid more attention to his speed and the course. I know I couldn’t make a presentation while simultaneously driving a car on a track.

Randy Probst does it better than anyone and he’s laughing while he’s going 150+ mph! I love his sports car reviews for Motor Trend Magazine. We gotta get him in a fast Tundra, eh? I’ll lend him my rig as long as I get a free set of tires and brakes when he’s done!
