This beautiful 1978 Toyota Fj45 Land Cruiser Long Bed pickup is a wonderful restoration.

This truck came to our attention thanks to Truck Trend. It is a fully restored truck. And we mean FULLY restored with all new stainless steel nuts and bolts.

The restoration was a frame-off project and the owner took the time to paint the frame and ensure it was rust-free. It also included many new items including:

  • Turn signals
  • OE bumper
  • Light covers
  • Toyota OE emblems
  • Exhaust, bushings, tie rod ends, shackles, shocks, and more
  • Warn winch
  • Seats
  • All the nuts and bolts are new plus they are all made of stainless steel

Cool Find 1978 Toyota FJ45 Land Cruiser Pickup - Interior

This truck has a beautiful interior to match.

While this restoration is unique, it was also put up for sale on Ebay. According to the Truck Trend story, the sale included the restored truck, original manual, title and insurance card from 1978. It reached a high bid of $55k on April 28, 2013 before the owner pulled it saying the reserve bid wasn’t met according to BringATrailer.com. It should be noted that there is some discrepancy with Truck Trend saying it sold and BringATrailer saying it was pulled.

Cool Find 1978 Toyota FJ45 Land Cruiser Pickup - Rear

The rear looks just as great as the front. What a cool truck!

This beautiful truck is powered by the original stock 2F inline-six with a four-speed manual transmission. It has the original Rustic Frame color. The owner told Truck Trend that there is no rust and it runs great.

Now we are taking. That’s a truck.

We need to ditch the Tundra, call our representatives and get the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 diesel in the USA and build it in Detroit.

That a great looking FJ. When I was in high school, I remember the Toyota jeep style Land cruiser. They will killer. I know a fellow who still has one. It’s his only set of wheels other then his bicycle. He just did a major rebuild and will never sell it.

      Larry,

Agreed! The market has a need for a true “work” truck that size. I don’t see it coming, but I do think there is a need.

Probably has a locker in both the front and rear–sigh…

Very clean truck. Looks great. Front end reminds me of a Jeep.

Now we’re talking. Very nice restoration on that one.

My brother-in-law has a 1966 Land Cruiser Pickup. It looks the same except the shape of the blinkers. Toyota didn’t change much in those days.

I had a ’75 L/C in high school, and it too looked the same. (except it was that ugly mustard yellow)

Those old Land Cruisers would go about anywhere. They weren’t great on fuel economy with the old straight 6 under the hood. I wish I still had mine.

    Thanks for posting.

Didn’t have the truck version but I had a 74 Corona SR5 in that mustard yellow with brown interior and brown vinyl roof. Had the sensor panel on the roof of the interior. It was disconnected when I discovered how to connected it. Then I knew the reason why it was disconnected. Had yellow and red lights. Yellow was fluids for battery, brake, radiator overflow, power steering, and wiper fluid. Red was all lights, tail and signal lights. Red was also engine oil, brake pads. I change everything to fix all lights. That was a challenge. Since it was 1976 it took two weeks for each item that was ordered. It was a great car for mpg’s. $5 would last all week and driving around that week. Small 10 gallon tank. A big change when I went to a 73 Dodge Charger big block 400.

bib block? Big block more like it. I hate typing.

    • Tim Esterdahl says:

      Mickey,

No worries, I fixed it. In the future, just put a generic message on here about the typo and I’ll fix it then delete your generic message.

FWIW, I am constantly after Jason to improve the comment plug-in on this site.

I often saw a Toyota FJ modified — usually with an engine/transmission swap, lifted suspension, and big wheels and tires but none as this one. The restoration process is amazing and complete, I can imagine how it feels a ride in this unique car. Great project, congrats
