2013 Best Full Size Truck for the Money – Toyota Tundra

The 2013 Toyota Tundra has won the “2013 Best Full Size Truck for the Money” award from U.S. News and Word Report. The award is given to the top vehicle in their segment for “outstanding value and critical acclaim.”
U.S. News and World report calculates this award by looking at a methodology which considers quality and value throughout 21 categories. It then takes the top composite scores to determine a winner. They base their quality on the basis of safety, reliability and industry experts opinions. Value is determined by looking at the vehicle’s five-year cost of ownership and average price paid for the truck.
The 2013 Toyota Tacoma also won the award in the compact truck segment.
“Sweeping the pickup truck segment as ‘Best Cars for the Money’ from U.S. News & World Report is a great honor and reflects Toyota’s commitment to quality, durability and reliability, all key ingredients for great value,” said Bill Fay, group vice president and general manager, Toyota Division. “These awards are a tribute to our truck engineering and design teams in Michigan, California, and Japan, and every team member at our Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas plant in San Antonio, where all Tundra’s and most Tacoma’s are assembled.”
This is yet another award for the Toyota Tundra. Toyota leads the way in all these awards by relying on their foundation of quality, reliability and dependability.

Good award. Noticed Consumer Reports didn’t do a truck and Lexus didn’t win anything. Only 3 related Toyota’s won for that mag.
Man i really want to buy a tundra but i cant talk myself into 11-14 mpg in a 4×4. They gotta get better with that. Cmon its 2013 and 3.69 a gallon is not helping

What are you talking about with 11-14 mpg? It has been our experience that our commenters get the sticker mileage. Toyota doesn’t inflate their numbers. It is real-world fuel economy.

Two co workers have4x4 crew max 5.7’s. Both 2012 and on the highway they get about 15. Hook a 5×10 single axle trailer behind them and mpg goes to 11-13. Sorry i didnt add the fact that mpg plumets when towing aven a little trailer. Dont get me wrong, i am in love with this truck, but my current ford gets 16 when towing and 17-17.5 when not. These guys had to have thier computer reflashed for some reason when brought in for service. Waiting to see if that helped any.something about the ethanol.

Oh, I can see towing reducing the MPG numbers. I’m a bit surprised they only get 15 on the highway. I talked with Toyota’s chief engineer about real-world fuel economy and I have seen on forums where owners get better numbers than that. For example check this one out on TundraTalk where some of the guys state they get 17+ highway. There are other factors that do affect all trucks MPGs like lifts, cold weather, bigger tires, etc.
It is interesting that your Ford gets better MPG since I have heard from other Ford owners personally that that isn’t the case. This makes me wonder if we are comparing apples-to-apples. I would think that a Ford CrewCab 4×4 will get about the same MPG that a Toyota does.
Not trying to knock your Ford or argue this point to death, I just find it curious.

The resell value may be higher than a ford but you spend more than that value in added fuel cost over five years or 100,000 miles. You just dont see it all at once like on a trade in.
Still doesnt change the fact that a 5.7 4×4 crew max iforce will only get 15 on the hwy. And that is a stock truck, they need to do better on mpg and other places inside this website agree with that. Even an author of an articke saying that they are not targeting buyers who care about mpg. WHAT????

All I can say is that many owners of the 5.7 4×4 crewmax iforce engine get better than 15 on hwy.

About gas mileage. I have a 2012 Tundra 4.6 ltr v8, 2 wheel drive, 6 spd. trans, bed cover, on the road I constantly get 24 – 25 mpg at 65 – 70 mph, go over 70 and it go down fast. I monitor closely with a Scanguage II.
