Tundra Earns Safety Award

The 2012 Toyota Tundra has earned the Top Safety Award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

The award was announced on December 15, 2011. The IIHS test results predict award-winning vehicles will have less serious injuries or death, in accidents. Owners of safety award winning vehicles pay reduced reduced rates for their insurance. Award winning vehicles ultimately result in increased sales for the manufacturers.

“Safety is a core value that dates back to the foundation of our company,” said Steve St. Angelo, executive vice president of Toyota Engineering and Manufacturing, North America Division, Incorporated. “IIHS’ awards further recognize our commitment to helping protect drivers and passengers.”

The test awards vehicles that are able to withstand 4.5 times their weight during the testing. To do this test, a metal plate is pushed into the vehicle at a constant rate of speed. This testing indicates the vehicles are two and a half times stronger than government standards require.

The Tundra along with 15 vehicles from Toyota Manufacturing is more than any other vehicle manufacturer. The other Toyota winners are: Avalon, Camry, Corolla, Highlander, Prius, Prius V, Sienna, Venza, and Yaris. Also the Lexus CT 200h and RX, Scion tC, xB, and xD.

The safest car in the world is the one you don’t run into anything with. Most serious injuries or deaths are caused by bad drivers, not bad cars.
