Sources Hint Toyota Accelerator Recall Fix Will Come Soon
Jason Lancaster | Jan 27, 2010 | Comments 22
A couple of sources from Toyota’s sales division have told us off the record that the official accelerator recall fix is ready and waiting for NHTSA approval.
The “fix” is rumored to be nothing more than a simple shim that will keep the accelerator mechanism from getting stuck. It’s anticipated that Toyota can manage to repair most of the effected vehicles within the month. Sources say that recall repairs could begin as early as next week, meaning that Toyota’s sales freeze could be over in just a few days.

Great news and hope it will be officially released ASAP so people can move on and stop freaking out.
I’m not taking my 2010 tundra in for the recall of the accelerator pedal sticking until I find out for sure when and what can be done for me on the darn spring for the VVTi issue which ticks me off to no end! One little fricking spring and basically darn near the entire engine has to be taken apart to get at it. Someone should be fired over this one little mishap if you ask me causing 1,000’s of pissed off customers.
Mk read one of Jason’s first threads about the cam issue on the 07 Tundra’s. Even though those engines didn’t make it to the streets the person making those cams was fired. Maybe that person has a beef with toyota so he put in a wrong spring to cause an issue. As I said on other threads Toyota already is sending out the parts to the dealership and around the March-April timeframe they will be fixing the vehicles effected.

TXTee – I hear that.
mk – Sorry man…I hope Toyota increases the powertrain warranty on your truck and all the other units with this problem.
Is this problem only on 2010 models?
No Michael. I have an 07 and my first two digits are 5T and I fall under that.
Michael – All 07+ Tundras are included in the recall I do believe.
Thank you Jason and Mickey. I have an ’07 Tundra and got the recall notice to remove my floor mat a while ago. I love my truck and will keep it. My gas pedal is normally pushed all the way to the floor so this should not be a problem for me. Seriously though I never trusted a computer controlled throttle …
LMAO way to go, Michael! You have the best response I’ve seen yet. Toyota sent me the floor mat recall notice as well but I didn’t even get mats with mine. It’s a precaution. Maybe I should check out the VVTi issue but so far nothing seems awry. Definitely hate that’s happening to you mk, but hope it will be taken care of appropriately….and SOON.
Michael – You bet. You’re my kind of guy.
News flash Toyota has found a fix, but no details. Details anyone?
Quote of the day from Google:
Is fuel efficiency really what we need most desperately? I say that what we really need is a car that can be shot when it breaks down.
– Russell Baker
Michael – It’s basically a shim…I haven’t seen any pictures, but it’s going to prevent parts from potentially getting hung up on each other…which (on rare occasions) evidently causes throttles to stick open.
Toyota moving forward … whether you want to or not. – Anonymous
Michael read my post dated 27 January. That pdf file shows a pic and tells you what you need to know.
Mickey how dare you refer me to another Tunrda site! Just kidding thank you for the link and quick response.
Michael it just happens to be a Tundra owner on that website has info where he works at for Toyota. So he gets the info early and puts it out. When I saw it I posted it here for everyone to see also. You’re welcome.
Not sure the validity of this, but supposedly the pedal is manufactured by some other company and not Toyota. Toyota is only 3% of the purchased pedals so who knows where the other 97% are sold.
Here’s a video on the pedal.

Automotive News ran a story that said only slightly more than we did yesterday…2 days AFTER we hit this. Where’s my gold star for scooping everybody!!?? 🙂
TXTee – Hadn’t heard that one – I think that CTS makes a lot of gas pedal assemblies, but I would guess that they only make Toyota’s design for Toyota.
CTS makes pedals for other manufacturer’s. They stated that in the news but never followed it up. What CTS stated also was that they made these pedals to Toyota’s specs.
