Toyota Tundra 5.7L TRD Supercharger

The 5.7L Toyota Tundra TRD Superchager will be available soon!

Maybe.

As I’m sure you’ve all heard by now, the TRD Supercharger has been given a part number in the latest Toyota Accessory Guide (part #  PTR29-34070), but that’s no indication that the supercharger will be available soon.

However, I spoke to a friend of mine that works in a local Toyota dealer’s parts department, and he was estimating he’ll be able to order in a month or two. That would mesh with Toyota’s stated time line (see the picture below), but that’s not really any indication either.

My guess is that the Tundra 5.7L TRD Supercharger will delayed — it’s pretty common for these things to be held back by either the EPA, CARB, or the internal bureaucracy of Toyota. Take, for instance, the debut of the supercharger for the Scion tC. It was supposed to be out in the fall following the car’s debut (it also had a part number in the catalog), but EPA and CARB regulators held back the release more than 6 months. Same story with the Tacoma supercharger back in the day (and the one that’s supposed to be coming out).

But, it’s cool to imagine getting our hands on one…

  12. Mike Farrell says:

I have nitrous on mine, with nitrous and a supercharger is the engine gonna get out and walk on me?

  13. admin says:

Mike – Nitrous, when used correctly, is completely safe. However, your system may need adjustment in order to be operated in conjunction with the supercharger – it depends on your setup.

  14. DJ says:

that would be nice to have on the tundra but gas mpg already stinks inmagen what it would be with that thing on it lol but it would be a kick ass engine

I have personally ridden in this S/C Tundra and boy it makes your neck snap back at takeoff like it was a fighter jet taking off from a ship deck.

I recently attended a TS Regional meet in Myrtle Beach, SC and one of the host (Sparks Toyota) brought a brand new Tundra Access Cab X-SP edition with the TRD Supercahrger installed. This thing was awsome! From the outside, it sounded like a jet engine spooling up as it leap off the line on about an 8th mile run. And of course the X-SP edition has the TRD Big Brake so it stopped just as fast, Everyone who was interested was given a ride in that rocket.

Since we had one with us, we installed a ScanGueageII in the truck (the version that can calculate horspower). The first run it show 608 hp and on the second run it jumped to 628. I was sitting in the backseat, holding the scanguage. I know what I saw and felt, I see this truck in my future!

Thanks to everyone that made this meet positble and for the demo rides. Made my families weekend!

    2) 405 rear wheel HP at 5400 rpm; 430 Torque at 4600 rpm

  23. Jerry – WHEW! Awesome – thanks for posting!!

  24. Craig says:

I have an 08 5.7 tundra, and I have added the Volant intake. It made a little difference, but not as much as I anticipated. I was thinking of the supercharger, even though the $400 I just spent on the Volant would go down the drain. Out of curosity, does anyone know what the supercharger does to the MPG. Right now, I am only getting about 14.5 MPG, which sucks!!!! Also, what other MODs can I do to get an increase in HP. I looked at heads, but not sure what type of impact they will have. I read that the factory heads and exhaust are really good.

  25. Craig says:

I was told that the supercharger costs around $5500 and about $2000 to installed.

  26. Craig – The best way to increase MPG is to drive slower. Acceleration and high speeds KILL mileage, so if you drive like a “little old lady” you’ll get better mileage. Otherwise, intake, exhaust, and a tonneau cover have all been shown to improve MPG – just not enough to justify their expense by themselves. Also, the official Toyota labor guide states that the supercharger takes 9 hours to install. If your local dealership charges about $100 an hour, it should cost about $900 to install. If your dealer quotes you more, it’s either because they have a higher labor rate (very common) or because they’re charging more than 9 hours. An extra hour or two is OK in my opinion (9 hours isn’t enough unless you’ve installed at least one beforehand), but much more is unacceptable. The dealership’s parts department is making a few hundred in profit, so the service department can afford to charge you a normal labor time.

  27. Chance says:

I just put the 5.7 supercharger on my single cab 07 tundra. Dyno tested at 507bhp @ 5600 RPM. It sucks gas b/c I tend to have a lead foot in town. On a good day I might get 14 pg. But I killed a chevy silverado ss in a run by 2 links. Turning heads in town. Its worth the almost 6 grand spent.

  28. Chance – Sounds awesome.

  29. Jimbo says:

Why is it that I’ve read all these testimonial blogs stating that everyone is getting Ford type mileage out of their Tundra’s. I have an 08 Crewmax Limited; I’ve had Ferds Shivvys and Dodges in the past that don’t even come close to the mileage; performance or handling. I will say though that if your not easier on it than drivin the old gutless Domestics then yes you will see a drastic decrease in economy. I suggest to anyone who wants good mileage especially on long road trips just let the little woman drive.

As for the SuperCharger; watch your “Extended warranties”; also you must install basically all performance accessories to get the performance and economy you desire. TRD Exaust/Throttle Body Spacer/Cold Air Intake and Performance Chip programming.

what is the gas milage with the 5.7 with a supercharger

  31. jb says:

YOU WANT TO ADD CHEAP PONIES TO YOUR 5.7 TUNDRA TRY THIS.TAKE THE PILIMINAY FILTER OUT OF THE AIR BOX,IF YOUR CAREFULL YOU CAN DO IT WITHOUT BREAKING IT IN CASE YOU WANT TO REINSTALL IT.THEN REPLACE THE STOCK FILTER WITH A K&N OR A TRD FILTER.IT TAKES THE AIR SENSOR AND COMPUTER ABOUT 300 MILES TO AJUST FOR THE CHANGE BUT A NOTICABLE CHANGE IN POWER AND IT ADDS A LITTLE MORE WITHOUT BEING TO NOISEY.I HAVE DONE THIS TWICE AND IT WORKS AND FOR $75 ITS CHEAP POWER TRUST ME.

  32. Athanasios says:

O7 Tundra DCab 4X4 6 inch lift on 35s. What kind of performance should I expect with the S/C and what about the warranty also have the extended warranty when I lose the transmission?

  33. Adam – 12 to 14 mpg – see comments above.
jb – That’s a good mod for the money.
Athanasios – Just because you’re adding the supercharger doesn’t mean you’ll lose a transmission – the 6 speed was designed for the power the supercharger produces. As for performance with a lift kit, I would imagine it will be all you can do to keep it on the road at full throttle.

  34. eric says:

will the 4.0SuperCharger will fit on a 4.6ltr. Tundra?

  35. Faid says:

but how many psi can the trd supercharger run ?? any idea

  36. Jason (Admin) says:

    eric – No.

Faid – If memory serves, the factory boost is 8PSI. I wouldn’t be surprised if you could run 11PSI without any trouble. However, you’ll need a Unichip tuner (or similar) and a very good mechanic to make that adjustment.

I need this like I need my daily injection of adrenaline. Guzzle up that fuel like there’s no tomorrow. I know that the services required to get me from Austin to Houston would be crazy but it’s a life style thing that I need to keep up.
