2012 Tundra – Chrome Package Will Be Offered

According to sources that attended this week’s dealer meeting, the 2012 Toyota Tundra will be offered with a special chrome package, similar to a chrome package that Ford offers on the XLT F150 (image below).
The 2012 Tundra Chrome Package will include:
- Chrome grille
- Chrome nerf bars/side steps
- Chrome door handles
- Special chrome wheels that, according to our sources, are somewhat ugly
As far as other changes/features, we’ve been told that the 2012 Tundra will be the same as the 2011. No mention of an integrated trailer brake controller or a new fuel economy package with a reduced rear axle drive ratio.
This article will be updated when more information is available.

I wouldn’t get chrome nerf/step bars. Rust in 2 years. Stainless Steel is the way to go. 4 years now the Trail FX’s I have on and no issues. As far as the rest of the chrome maybe the bumper is only real chrome I see. The grill and door handles just to me isn’t real chrome. Also I prefer color matching.
Eeeewwwww chrome!
uhmmmm…
that’s a ford in that picture..!!??
i mean, seriously, who published this..??
^^ Mr. Clean!
@dikkie, the article uses the F-150 as an example, that’s why it’s there.
Anyways, chrome is stupid IMO.
I bet the chrome is NOT chrome, but most of the parts for sure the door handles and front grille guard will be plastic with fake chrome plating on top. Agree, stainless steel step bars is the way to go but even then most after 3-4 years will show some rust unless cleaned very regularly at least here in WI where salt in the winter eats chrome. toyota will charge probably 2 grand for a pkg. markup being probably over 1/2 of that price. Yet another gimmick to make money. So, guessing the newly revamped tundra inside and out totally will be 2013? or will it be 2014?
Mickey – You’re right about the lack of real chrome.
Dez – LOL. I’m a fan of chrome, but from what I heard no one is going to be a fan of the Tundra Chrome Package.
dikkie – Uh…did you see the caption on that image?
mk – You are correct – it will be plastic chrome on door handles, grille, etc. Not sure if the wheels are chrome or “chrome clad” – i.e. steel with plastic.
Gutz – Hows the truck repair coming, btw?
To sell a chrome package just doesnt appeal to me. I’d put chrome where I wanted it to be on my own choice. I prefer the flat black handles to give my truck some contrast along the side….color matched would end up scuffed. Chrome looks good on luxury vehicles….not so much trucks. It gets to be gaudy.
I said this same thing in the 2014 tundra blog a couple of months ago.
