2008 Tundra WOW THAT SUCKS Prize

One of our featured vehicles, Mickey’s Traveling Tundra Crew, suffered a little damage a while back. A negligent and uninsured 7 point buck ran out in front of Mickey’s truck while it was going 70 mph. While Mickey managed to slow down to 35 mph (a full-fledged emergency stop), the deer was just too close. You can read the full story on the Deer Strike thread in the TundraNetwork Forums.
Here’s the BEFORE picture:
Here are the AFTER pictures:
The good news: The Tundra is designed to protect occupants from all types of crashes. The truck did an excellent job of absorbing the impact with no damage to the driver.
The bad news: Repairs were expensive – about $10k – and they took quite a while. The damage was pretty severe.
Shout out to Superior Toyota of Parkersburg, West Virginia for doing a bang-up job on the repair and for their excellent customer service.
If you’ve every wondered why people purchase Bull Bars and Grille Guards for the pickups, now you know.

That is a solid 11 on the Suckometer
Dang it! Now I have another part to consider adding. I just don’t want that extra weight on the truck though. I wonder how difficult it is to remove/reinstall for the times when I’m driving through deer country?
Thanks Jason. I’m just glad the whole ordeal is over. The truck drives great and the only thing I noticed that’s different is that it’s getting better gas mileage. Go figure….
I had a truck once that after I wrecked it would randomly lauch the cassette tape out of the player at high velocity. Better Gas mileage is WAY better than that.
Mickey – You bet. Sorry it took me so long to get these pics up. Glad to hear the gas mileage is better…you think they forgot to put something back? 🙂
They forgot the gas wastertron gasket,
I think of Mickey every time I pass a deer crossing/bear crossing sign and just pray the Xtreme driving lights will freeze them before they think of walking onto the highway.
